Paseo Acoxpa, a shopping mall in Mexico City, planned an impressive roof in 2018 in the form of a grid ETFE buffered structure.
The approximately 1,500 square meter barrel-shaped roof is 67 m long and 16 m wide and spans the main shopping mall. The slender steel structure made of cross beams forms a grid of 248 diamond shapes, in which transparent ETFE air pillows are installed. The air support pads are interconnected and connected to the blower unit, which regulates air pressure and automatically compensates for weather fluctuations.
For rhomboid air pillows, acute angles are a particular challenge; Making them crease-free is a priority. The precise planning of the ETFE airpillow and the specially developed clamping profile make this vision possible.
