At 145 meters high, the Bailanghe Ferris Wheel in Weifang, Shandong Province, China is the largest shaftless Ferris wheel today.
The government in Seoul, South Korea, has announced plans to build the world's largest shaftless Ferris wheel at a height of 180 meters at a cost of $300 million.
The project, called Seoul Ring, will be built at Sky Park in northeastern Seoul and is expected to begin in 2025 and be completed in 2027.
When completed, the "Seoul Ring" will have 36 carriages, each of which can hold up to 25 people. At full capacity, the Ferris wheel carries 11,792 passengers a day.
Unlike the traditional Ferris wheel, which is supported by axles and cables, the shaftless wheel is made up of a circular track in which the carriages travel in a circle. Its avant-garde shape is sure to become a new landmark in Seoul.
