Oxigeno in Costa Rica is a shopping and entertainment destination of 145,000 square meters and one of the largest rooftop parks in the world. The developer is the well-known Cuestamoras Urbanismo, planned and designed by JERDE. Oxigeno's architectural design is inspired by nature, including a large rooftop park, where entertainment, education, food and shopping are integrated indoors, reshaping the retail industry in the 21st century.
Oxigeno’s design chief, Eduardo Lopez, senior vice president of JERDE, said, “The unique shape of the building was inspired by the surrounding volcanoes. We observed the local geographic location, the hanging clouds on the top of the mountain, the green plants, and the hills. It blends into the local texture in the form of a modern building, echoing the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains and clouds."
Among them, the roof of the food court adopts ETFE airbag membrane structure. The diameter of the airbag is 45m, the projected area is 1600m², and the thickness of the ETFE film is 0.25mm. The cable net is used for reinforcement, and the grid size of the cable net is 1.2m.
